Our construction practice is wide-ranging and varied.  Over the years we have represented both owners and contractors in all facets of the construction process from initial contracting to claims resolution, mediation, arbitration and litigation.

Representative Matters

  • Represented operator of private preschools in construction and leasing of schools throughout the United States.
  • Represented developer in all aspects of the rehabilitation of a multi-story townhouse in Center City Philadelphia, including negotiation of construction financing, construction agreement, architect agreement, and tenant leases.
  • General outside real estate counsel to international “big box” retailer in U.S. matters, including acting as counsel (either directly or via oversight of local counsel) in acquisition, development, design, construction, remodeling, relocation, and disposition of retail and distribution facilities in the markets throughout the U.S.
  • Settled OSHA claim against concrete contractor in connection with fatal accident involving several of the company’s employees.
  • Represented owners, contractors, and materials suppliers of large-scale commercial projects in numerous litigations involving virtually all aspects of commercial and government construction contracts, including delay claims, mechanics’ liens, design and construction defects, defective materials, and payment and performance bond claims.
  • Represented a large international retailer in resolving multiple construction disputes, large and small.
  • Successfully represented a large national insurance company as plaintiff in a multi-year title-insurance dispute involving multiple successful appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals and ultimately caused the rewrite of the well-known “comprehensive endorsement.”
  • Defended an owner from a low six-figure construction claim and ended up collecting $2.5M from the initial claimant in mediation, before trial became necessary.
  • Successfully defended a small manufacturer in state court in Pennsylvania against allegations of malfunctions in equipment supplied to large construction project.
